Gowon tasks pharmacists on fake drugs

As 22 new Fellows were inducted into the Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy (NAPharm), Former Nigerian  Former Head of State, General General Yakubu Gowon, urged Nigerian pharmacists to assist the Federal Government to eradicate fake and substandard drugs in the country.

Gowon, who was the special guest of honour at the event, implored the new fellows to join hands with security agencies to fight the menace of drugs counterfeiting.

He told the new fellows the government would require their assistance in talking the menace of fake drugs and to make.

Commending the Academy for conferring the NAPharm Lifetime Achievement Award on former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission  (INEC), Prof. Atahiru Jega, Gowon told guests at the event that he was impressed with his conduct during the last election.

“Prof Jega stood out. I was impressed with his conduct of the last general elections and he made us proud as Nigerians with peaceful and successful management of the elections. That election to me was one of the most serious as it needed the effort of every Nigerian to keep our country together,” Gowon said.

Jega, on his part, thanked the Academy for selecting him for the award.

He said, “I want to dedicate this award to my colleagues at INEC who worked tirelessly for the success we achieved. We inherited an organisation that was notorious. We changed the perception of INEC. But most of all, I dedicate this award to the Nigerian voters who made sure that their votes counted despite the challenges we all faced. The voters, civil society organisations and development partners and the voters for their role in ensuring the success we achieved. We must keep building on that success.”
