Security, health top visit agenda
Nigeria’s security challenges, especially the Boko Haram insurgency and key health issues of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are expected to dominate talks between the UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-Moon and Nigerian government officials as the latter begins his official visit to the country.
Although the country has made some progress in the two key areas, more assistance will be needed in the next few months to put an end to the insurgencies that have made the country to have the highest number of displaced persons in the world, in addition to a high number of deaths and wanton destruction of properties. Nigeria still lags behind in some of the MDGs, especially in the area of child mortality and matenal health.
