UNICEF relaunches SOMTEC to address women, children’s Issues

The new Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Oyo State, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has called on stakeholders to enhance their collaboration in addressing issues affecting the welfare of children and women.

Addressing participants at a One-Day Social Mobilization Technical Committee (SOMTEC) Meeting, organized by the Oyo State Ministry of Information and Orientation in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Ibadan, Prince Oyelade assured the attendees of the government’s unwavering support and renewed dedication to promoting women and children’s issues.

UNICEF’s Social Behavioral Specialist, Mrs. Aderonke Akinwole explained that the purpose of the meeting was to relaunch SOMTEC for more effective service delivery in providing regular socio-interventions for humanity.

The UNICEF Program aims to achieve developmental milestones for children aged 0 to 24, focusing on areas such as nutrition, health, education, child protection, water and sanitation hygiene, social policy, and communication for development.

Mrs. Adeola Adewole, the UNICEF Programme Officer at the Oyo State Ministry of Information and Orientation, welcomed participants and urged them to devise an effective action plan to fulfill the committee’s mandate of caring for children and protecting women.

In collaboration with UNICEF, the meeting brought together participants from civil society organizations, religious bodies, journalists, government ministries, and agencies to brainstorm and strategize the way forward for the state’s social mobilization technical committee.

The aim is to create a positive impact and effectively address the welfare of children and women in the region.
