Chevron, others lift Ogun schools with books, teaching aids

Star Ultra Deep Petroleum Limited, a subsidiary of  Chevron Company with its Co-venturers in Oil Mining License, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, LUKOIL and Oil and Gas Nigeria limited,  donated books and teaching aids to four secondary schools in Ado-Odo Ota, Ogun State earlier today .
The items presented to the schools are  for  Biology, Chemistry, Home Economics and Information and Communication Technology laboratories at a ceremony held at Ansar-ud-deen Comprehensive College in Ota.
The beneficiary schools are Ansar-ud-deen Comprehensive College, Saiint Michael Comprehensive Secondary School, Anglican Grammar School and Iganmode Grammar School all in Ado-Odo Ota local government of the state.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Director, Star Ultra Deep Petroleum Limited, represented by Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Lagos, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Sam Otuonye said  Chevron would continue to add value to the lives of the people by contributing positively to the socio-economic development of Nigeria as partnership remains  one of its core values.
He said the donation would no doubt assist in high grading teaching, learning and empowering students of the four schools for the challenge of the future.
Chairman, Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, Chief Reggie Uduhiri in his speech at the ceremony said the company is committed to ensuring Nigerians acquire the necessary education and skills for better life.
“It is our expectation that our support for education and economic empowerment programmes in the country will positively impact on the academic performances of our young people and the growth of entrepreneurship for sustainable development of the country,” he said.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Group General Manager NAPIMS/NNPC, Mr. Dafe Sejebor represented by Mrs. Helen Nkor said with the donation, it will be the pride of the donors to see students from the state go on to become internationally celebrated professionals in whatever field of endeavour they choose.
“As an agency that is in charge of managing NNPC’s upstream investments in Nigeria, the most important commitment for us is the investment in human capital especially in securing the future of our youths by supporting education.”
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alh. Rasheed thanked the donors for the materials which he said will go a long way to support the students’ learning and boost their success.
He disclosed that the state government has done a lot to improve education but there are still more to be done and that is why  stakeholders like Chevron and others took up the responsibilty.
Urging the schools to make good use of the items, he urged other stakeholders to emulate the donors.
The facilitator, Jane Coker from Breezeball Management International Limited,  in her remark said the donated items was arrived at from the research done by her company on schools around Ado-Odo Ota in the state.
The elated Coker said the students who have not seen some of the items in their laboratories before now are eager to make use of the teaching aids which she said will boost standard of education in the state.
