Flood victims: Midwives panic as 2 pregnant women go into labour in Rivers IDP camp
Midwives in a flood Internally Displaced People’s Camp in Rivers State were reported to be in panic on Thursday over the condition of two expectant mothers in the facility.
According to Vanguard, the development had left the midwives and occupants of the camp at Ogbogu Community, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State in distress.
This was as the Governorship Candidate of the Accord Party in the state, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, visited and handed over relief material; food items, drugs and mattresses to the flood victims in ONELGA and Ahoada East LGAs.
The displaced persons camping at Ogbogu Community Secondary School said they are living without any health intervention and food.
The lead midwife in the camp, Ms. Happiness Timothy, said they have been in panic on how to handle the two women that were in labour at the moment.
She said her fear was not there was no proper health attention to the pregnant women and that government has not giving them much attention.
She said: “We are midwives. We volunteered to work in this place to help the pregnant women. We have more than 20 pregnant women in their camp.
“As it stands now two of them are in labour. There is no labour room to take them to. We do not also have want to use in carrying out the delivery. We don’t know what to do. We need government to help us so that we can give the pregnant ones attention.”
