UBTH flags off subsidized “specialized surgeries” programme

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital flagged off its  “Subsidized Specialized Surgeries”, on Tuesday February 14, as part of activities marking its six-month long celebration of its golden jubilee.

Flagging off the programme at the hospital’s TETFUND Building, the Deputy Governor of Edo State Comrade Philip Shaibu, assured of the state government’s  continuous support while also commending the Management of the hospital for the developmental strides in the state’s health care.

Welcoming guests to the event, the UBTH Chief Medical Director, Prof. Darlington Obaseki  described  the subsidized “specialized surgeries” programme as another activity in the “giving back” series which commenced in December to celebrate the hospital at 50. He also said that the procedures which are being subsidized would include high end procedures such as Laser lithotripsy, Laparoscopy, Colonoscopy, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)  among others.

According to him, 115 persons have registered and have been screened  to enjoy the 50% subsidy.

Prof. Obaseki reiterated that UBTH has the capacity to render quality care and services comparable to International standards hence, people should take advantage of available specialists care instead of traveling abroad.

The historic event also had in attendance the Secretary to Edo State Government represented by Deborah Enakhiwon, Esq, Permanent Secretary, Office of SSG, Emeritus Prof.Reginald Ofoegbu, Rt. Hon. Chevalier Andrew Agenmomen and President, World Medical Association Dr. Osahon Enabulele among others.
