Physio Centers for Africa organises first ever comprehensive training for caregivers

Nigeria’s leading private physiotherapy provider, Physio Centers of Africa  (PCA) has announced plans for its first ever comprehensive caregiver training to be held in Lagos for medical personnel and non-medical personnel caring for the aged, special needs people and those newly discharged from hospital.

According to a Press Release signed by the Managing Director of the company, Ms Ngozi Edozien, the  4-day training which holds from 11th  to 14th December, has been designed to provide participants with vital skills and knowledge on hospital and home care.

The course will be coordinated by Dr. Michelle Neff, a Doctor of Physiotherapy from Michigan, USA and Executive Director, Clinical Excellence for PCA.  Dr. Neff has almost 10 years of clinical experience in the home and elder care setting.

“The caregiver course is open to all professionals, from nurses and other health care professionals to auxiliary nurses, non-medical personnel such as family members or others who find themselves acting as caregivers for the young, the elderly, those discharged from hospital but requiring nursing care at home.”

“The course also acts as a cost effective way to get a BLS certification while participating in a full comprehensive training in all aspects of care giving.

“Course content includes the personal and psychosocial aspects of being a caregiver, personal skills needed to be a great caregiver, creating a safe home environment, fall prevention, recognizing emergencies and unusual health events to the creation of an emergency action plan.  Many caregivers also need better skills in lifting and handling to minimize injury to the caregiver and client, medication management, exercise for the elderly, first aid and CPR including wound and injury care.

“The training will enhance the ability to assess, monitor and document vital signs and perform caregiver tasks such as feeding, bathing, toileting, and more. We believe the course is a must do to keep your loved ones well,” the statement further said.
