Lagos State has recorded another death from Lassa fever outbreak currently raging in many parts of the country.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris informed newsmen, Wednesday, of the death of a 27 year old lady on Tuesday at Ijede Hospital in Ikorodu Local Government Area, few hours after she was admitted at the hospital.
Last week the state government had announced the first death from the virus. The victim is a 51-year-old man who lived in Ilasan, Lekki and returned from Edo where he attended a wedding ceremony on December 28, last year.
The latest person to die in Lagos of the disease was said to have travelled to Edo state on December 24, 2015 and returned on January 2, 2016. She took ill in January 11, 2016.
According to the Commissioner, the lady was taken to one private hospital and three churches before she was later brought to Ijede Hospital by her relatives. He disclosed that Ninety persons had been line-listed as contacts of deceased as at January 26, 2016 and contact tracing was on going.
“Her remains had been kept in the morgue, she would be buried after due consultation with her family,” he said.
The State said it has so far recorded twenty suspected cases of Lassa Fever as at January 26, 2016, since the outbreak of the disease in the country in November, 2015. Fourteen of the suspected cases tested negative, four suspected cases were confirmed positive of Lasssa Fever, while the results of two suspected cases are pending.
